Actually, this situation makes me think of Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick more than Resident Evil. Ever play Fistful of Boomstick? For the PS2? Awesome game. Tons of fun. And only like $20. What more can you ask for from a video game than Bruce Campbell traveling through time Back to the Future style and killing hordes of undead creatures? I know that’s all I want in a video game.

Seriously, the game rocks, and I recommend everyone check it out. Go ahead, stop by your local video rental store or used video game store and pick up a copy. Go on, I insist. Really, go do it. NOW JACKASS! What’s that you say? You don’t own a PS2? You don’t even play video games? What the hell’s the matter with you? Everyone plays video games! If you don’t play video games, then you’re letting the terrorists win. Think about it.

Ah, Mac and Buddy. Those wacky ghouls. These two are quite possibly the characters that have gone through the most changes over the years, in both appearance and name. Hell, when Grimstone started their names were different and I retroactively changed them later (ain’t the Internet grand?).

They were originally a pair of Jack O’Lanterns possessed by spirits whose look and names were based off those McDonald Halloween Happy Meal pails they had when I was a kid. They stayed that way for a while. Eventually they became a goblin and a ghoul that could turn into Jack O’Lanterns. Then they were both goblins. Or ghouls. I don’t remember. It kepted changing. Finally they both became ghouls for good and servants of the evil Krulor.

Their names originally in Grimstone, Cecil & Shamus, were a leftover from their goblin days when they were both gonna be Irish. I decided to rename them since they are not in fact Irish, so I consulted my “list of names to use” and selected Buddy & Mac. Sounded like a good duo. Mac & Buddy. Buddy & Mac. Works for me.

They were suppose to be a kind of Abbot & Costello / Laurel & Hardy pair, but they seem kind of just psychotic. I’ll be working more to better develop their personalities, make them more distinct. Buddy, the short one, will be more hyper and manic, where Mac will be a little more in control, a little more cunning and clever. The brain and the brawn, as it were. And eventually, I might get around to working the Jack O’Lantern thing back in.

So yeah, Buddy is a tad bit on the psycho side. He doesn’t like humans. At least, not the living kind. See, ghouls only eat the dead. Corpses. The more decompossed and rotting, the better they like ‘em. Eating living humans for them is like us eating raw chicken. It’s just sick. It’s also strictly forbidden. And they don’t care much for Hildy. We’ll learn more about her dealings with Krulor in the future.
