The Vitruvian Skeleton

Well everyone, I have good news. It looks like my break will be shorter than I expected. I was able to work through the crap that was bringing me down and made a couple decisions about my life. The first being that I intend to pursue as far as I can my goal of creating and writing my own animated series for television. I’m going to work on some ideas that I am going to try pitching to [adult swim]. I know my chances of suceeding with this are not great, but I feel that I must at least give it a try. For if I do nothing, then I will certainly fail. This way, I at least have a shot. Afterall, I am going to school for animation, so this isn’t that wild an idea for me. I have the contact info of who to reach at [adult swim] and a list of what to send them and what not to pitch. So wish me luck.

The second, is that I am going to continue this comic for as long as I can. I may not stick to a strict update schedule for a while, but there will be new comics. My oldest and closest friend Steve has agreed to lend me a hand in keeping the ideas coming. My personal breakthrough led to some inspiration and a new approach to the comic. I have the script written for a 12 page Halloween story that I am going to begin posting on Monday, October 16th. It will run every week day until Halloween on the 31st. This may be followed by another short recess, with new comics resuming the M-W-F friday schedule on the following Monday.

As for the new approach, I have begun working on something that I’ve been wanting to do for months now. I am creating digital model sheets of the main characters, the kind of things that are used for Flash animation and a few other comics like Starslip Crisis and Multiplex. That is, the characters are broken down into components, so that you can swap out heads and faces and hands and whatnot as needed to create new poses and drawings. This will be a huge time saver for me and allow for a greater consistency in the appearance of the characters. There will still be times when I need to create new comics from scratch, for anything more action oriented. But for the most part, the comic will be done using these Illustrator asset files. Afterall, a lot of the comics are talking head stuff anyway. And as new comics require new expressions and gestures and so forth, I will create them and add them to the model sheets. I am quite pleased with how this is turning out so far. The new Ribcage model is a vast improvement and in much better proportions. Really good proportions actually. Check it out:

Neat, huh? I have Ribcage and Sara completed so far. Count Cyanide and Furface are next. Once I have those completed, youll probably see some updated wallpapers and graphics on the site, such as the header, at least for Ribcage. I think this is really going to help me with making the comic and allow me to focus more on the writing. Thanks again to everyone that sent me words of encouragement. I really appreciated it. See you guys back here on Monday for new comics!
