Paradise, Thy Name is BotCon

Well, actually, it use to be BotCon. Now it’s the Official TransFormers Collectors Convention, or OTFCC for short. My girlfriend and I attended it this past weekend dispite the fact that we have little to no money. Fortunately, a good deal of the cost was paid for months ago when we did have money. The weekend was great. I won’t go into a lot of detail about it, as there are much better websites that will have far better recaps posted. Let’s just say that we had fun, bought some cool stuff (I got some great deals on early loose Beast Wars figures), saw some Transformers celebrities (we stood right next to longtime TF comic writer Simon Furman and rode the elevator alongside veteran voice actor Greg “Grimlock” Berger), had a lot of fun and spent more money than we should have. Now we’re back home, broke, depressed, and in desparate need of good jobs. And Wizard World is less than two weeks away. It’s funny, I have a job, but it feels like I don’t since I only work 10 hours a week.

On another note, I have decided not to join Creature Features Comics. I don’t feel I’m ready to commit to something of this scope yet. I will be posting the storyline I was working on for them on the site, and then Grimstone will be going on hiatus yet again. I have to get my life in order before I spend more time on creative endeavors. There are also other projects I want to work on and need to step back from Grimstone for a while.

I’m also kind of burnt out on the whole daily comic strip format, so I don’t really know what’s going to become of Grimstone. I would be happier doing it (or something else) as a printed comic, and I may eventually work on making that a reality. But my real interests lie in animation. After my work situation improves, I’m going to start working on some cartoon scripts, just some writing projects for myself to get some stories out of my system. I may look into trying to get an agent somewhere down the road, I’m not sure.

Right now I just want to do some stuff for myself, not worry about other people seeing it. I know I want to make a living doing something with my characters, right now just isn’t the right time to work on that. I need to find a better day job that I will one day be able to quit cause I suceeded in publishing a comic or selling a cartoon script. GameStop is not that job. Gotta be able to pay the bills before I can pursue my dreams. I will continue to post in this blogger thing, and sporadically post new comics as the mood strikes me. See you in the funny papers.
