I bet you were expecting a big creepy medieval looking castle, weren’t you? Well, sorry to dissapoint you. But if you go and watch Universal’s 1931 Frankenstein movie, a classic to be sure, you’ll notice that Dr. Frankenstein’s lab was not in a castle, not in his ancestral home, but in an old, decrepit tower out in the middle of nowhere. So that’s what Dr. Frankenbeans gets too.
The old Universal monster movies are some of my favorites and were a huge inspiration for the characters and scenarios of Grimstone. You’ll see a lot of elements from the various films creep into the strip now and again. Man, I need to watch those again soon. Been too long.
